Announcements: Three SCCPSS Schools Receive New Automated External Defibrillators

Three SCCPSS Schools Receive New Automated External Defibrillators

Hesse K8 School, New Hampstead High School and Bloomingdale Elementary School are safer places for staff and students thanks to the hard work of some school nurses.  Each of the schools were selected to receive a new automated external defibrillator (AED) by the Michael Vincent Sage Dragonheart Foundation.

In order for a school to be considered for an award, an application was required showing need and commitment to ownership.  Each of the school nurses –

Sara Breeden and Holli Rhodes of Hesse K8,

Latoya Bonilla and Kanitha Black of New Hampstead High and

Jeanette Braxton of Bloomingdale Elementary - worked to complete an application and by doing so, demonstrated their own commitment to making their sites safer and more secure for their staff and students.

Our nurses are working district wide to increase cardiac awareness and education.  Several schools have already achieved Project S.A.V.E  status and several others have scheduled dates pending for their training.    Nurses throughout the district are working with their Emergency Response Teams and asking the question everyone needs to think about…”What will you do in a cardiac emergency?”

According to the CDC, one in every four deaths is related to a cardiac issue and 47% of sudden deaths occur outside of the hospital.   We commend our nurses for doing  their part to ensure our school teams are ready to respond in the event an emergency happens on campus.
