Announcements: Three Students Chosen to Represent SCCPSS as 2018 United States Presidential Scholars Nominees

Title

Three Students Chosen to Represent SCCPSS as 2018 United States Presidential Scholars Nominees

Body

Three Savannah-Chatham County Public School students from two high schools have been nominated to represent the District as United States Presidential Scholars.  In the area of Academics, Alexandria Shearer, a student at New Hampstead High School will be the nominee.  In the area of Arts, Chanel Brown-Tandap, also a student at New Hampstead High School is nominated.  In the area of CTE, John Kelly, of Savannah Arts Academy will be the nominee.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964, by executive order of the President, to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating high school seniors. In 1979, the program was extended to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talent in the visual, creative and performing arts. In 2015, the program was again extended to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishment in career and technical education fields. Each year, up to 161 students are named as Presidential Scholars, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students.

Our District nominees will now move forward into the state selection process.
