Title

Yamacraw Center for the Performing Arts Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Body

On Friday, November 10, 2017, district officials, school board representatives, school faculty, staff, and students gathered to celebrate the completion of construction for the Yamacraw Center for the Performing Arts. The ESPLOST II funded facility sits on the existing site of the Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts.

The center's auditorium is built to hold 600 seats. It boasts a state of the art sound control room, 3,251 square foot performance stage and lighting, theater and band classrooms, a piano lab, chorus classroom, set design space and a box office.

Some of Garrison's students were heavily instrumental in the ceremony. Jake Gilluly and Hasina Lilley led the Pledge of Allegiance. Leah Horan and Talia Dobbins served as co-hosts for the program. The Garrison School Band performed the National Anthem. Additionally, Garrison's 2018 Teacher of the Year Thea Van Goor provided the history of Yamacraw prior to the cutting of the ribbon.

Mr. James Heater, Garrison's principal, shared his excitement about the initiative. He also led the audience in a moment of silence for the Veterans and to pay respects for the passing of Spencer Elementary Principal, Andrea Williams. District 3 School Board Representative, Cornelia Hall; School Board President, Ms. Jolene Byrne; and Superintendent Dr. Ann Levett all expressed their heartfelt sentiments about this momentous occasion.
