Half-Way!  The New Port Wentworth School –

Topped Out!

This ESPLOST funded project hit a major milestone in the construction timeline with the roof being placed on the structure and construction on pace at 50% completion.  Now that the roof is completed, construction and design professionals celebrated with a “Top-Out” Ceremony held on December 9, 2014.

“This school is coming along extremely well,” said Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Thomas B. Lockamy, Jr. (WJCL-TV interview).  “We’re going to be on schedule, as a matter of fact we might be just a little ahead of schedule, but we’re really pleased and excited."

The project is a new school that will be constructed on a new site in the Rice Hope residential development located at Market Blvd. and Mulberry Avenue.  When the school opens it is planned to be a Grade 3 - 8 school.  The school will have a gymnasium with hardwood flooring; kitchen and cafeteria; media center with a computer lab; science labs, two art rooms; music and band room; teacher workrooms and resource rooms. The school is designed to accommodate 1,000 students, with the potential to expand to 1,200 students in the future.  The school is set for completion in August of 2015.
