City officials, SCCPSS Board members, District officials, faculty, staff and community members were all present to revel in the renewed Port Wentworth school. During this past summer, the campus was revitalized for the “Land of the Little People”.

Port Wentworth’s renovations included new carpet, the nurse’s clinic, accommodating restrooms, parent drop off location, and the addition of benches in the hallways. The media center also added age-appropriate book browsing carousels.

Pre-K students will be introduced to the Reggio Emilia Curriculum, an advanced and stimulating approach to early childhood education. The system promotes self-expression for students and produces unique projects through the incorporation of hands-on experiences and family collaboration.

The ceremony was highlighted with a fabulous performance of the National Anthem sung by Mrs. Kimberly Gunn and the Pledge of Allegiance led by Port Wentworth students Malachi Hall, Lady Laura Diaz, E’tieon Brown, Jacir Berrera, and Ella Rice. In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, 2nd grade students performed the La Raspa for the occasion.

District 8 School Board Representative, Mrs. Ruby D. Jones; Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Ann Levett; Port Wentworth Principal, Dr. Tamika Wright; Chief of Facilities Management and Support Services, Vanessa Miller-Kaigler; and Superintendent Dr. Thomas B. Lockamy, Jr. all shared their heartfelt sentiments about this momentous occasion.
