Can anyone register a student in a Savannah-Chatham County Public School?

No, only a parent or legal guardian may register a student in school. A resident student 18 years of age or older is regarded as an adult, and may register themselves. Refer to Verification of Guardianship under Student Registration.

My family is moving to Chatham County after the new school year has started, will my child be counted absent?

No. A student does not accumulate absences until the student is enrolled and begins attending school.

If I anticipate purchasing a home in Chatham County, may I enroll my child at the area school based on the new home address, prior to actually moving into the home?

Yes, provided that the closing on the home or lease agreement is within a 30 day period. Documentation from your realtor, bank or leasing agent, indicating the closing date or date of occupancy will be provided to the Pupil Personnel Office.

Who is responsible for school bus transportation?

The SCCPSS Transportation Department (912) 395-5591.

If I move within Chatham County during the school year, how do I transfer my child to the school in my new attendance area?

You will need to obtain a transfer/withdrawal form from your child’s current school. You may register at the new school with the transfer/withdrawal form and current proof-of-address.

How will my child’s records be transferred from another school system?

When you register your child, you will sign a records release form which will be sent to your child’s previous school. The previous school will forward the official student records directly to the requesting Savannah-Chatham County Public School. Refer to Registration Information.

May my child finish the school year at the school they are currently attending if our home address changes?

If your home address changes after the first nine-week grading period of the school year, your child’s principal may make an allowance for your child to complete the current school year at the present school. However, you will need to provide the current school with proof-of-address for your new address, and you will be responsible for your child’s transportation. You must enroll your child in the new school for the following school year.

Who is authorized to withdraw a student from a Savannah-Chatham County Public School?

Only the person who enrolls a student may withdraw that student from school. Refer to Student Registration Forms.
