Mrs. Baluh's Art representing Hesse at Jepson Center

The Lila Cabaniss SCCPSS Art Teachers Exhibition, which opened earlier this month at the Telfair Museums Jepson Center, will come to an end on Sunday, August 28, 2016.  A closing reception will be held on Friday, August 26, 2016 from 4pm to 6pm.

The exhibition features works by approximately 20 current elementary, middle and high school visual arts teachers - nearly one-third of all SCCPSS art teachers (our own Mrs. Baluh!!)! The works encompass a variety of mediums including drawing, painting, printmaking, ceramics and mixed media.

Lila Cabaniss, an artist, teacher, co-founder of the Savannah Art Club and Telfair Museums supporter, initiated the first art classes in the public schools system in 1915. She became the schools’ first full-time art teacher in 1927. She was also the first to organize school field trips to Telfair, an education program that endures today and benefits thousands of Savannah students each year with free 4th grade field trips.
