Largo-Tibet Teacher of the Year 2017-18

Laura Weiss

Mrs. Laura Weiss

Largo-Tibet Elementary School

My name is Laura Weiss. I am currently a third grade teacher at Largo-Tibet Elementary. This is my ninth year as a Largo-Tibet Leopard and my eleventh year in the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System.

Being chosen as 2017-2018 Teacher of the Year for Largo-Tibet is an honor and a privilege. I truly believe that teaching is what I am meant to do and it is more a way of life than just a job. It extends beyond August to May as I think and plan about teaching all the time.

I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Armstrong State University and have a Master’s Degree and an Education Specialist degree from NOVA Southeastern.

When I'm not teaching, I spend time with my husband. We enjoy working on projects around the house, seeing movies, and trying new restaurants. We have two children, a cat and two dogs.

I believe that in order to be successful, a child must be met where they are when they enter my classroom. Their background and abilities should never limit the opportunities they have to succeed. Children are met with respect, humor, and a "Can Do" attitude so that they can all see themselves as successful learners.
