Announcements: Announcements for the Week of November 5, 2017

Title

Announcements for the Week of November 5, 2017

Body

STEM Education Awards

Congratulations Ravens! The STEM Education Awards, sponsored by the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG), has selected The STEM Academy @ Bartlett as its Middle School Winner!

The sixth annual STEM Education Awards honors Georgia schools, programs, and companies for outstanding efforts and achievements in supporting and promoting science, technology, engineering, and math education. For more information, visit http://www.tagonline.org/events/stem-education-awards/

The STEM Academy 2017 CCRPI

The STEM Academy's CCRPI score for 2017 is 82.5, the highest score among middle schools in the district! This is an increase of 3.1 points over last year's score of 79.4. We are heading in the right direction!

The Georgia Department of Education released 2017 College and Career Ready Performance Index scores yesterday which show improvement across the board in the state’s elementary, middle and high schools. Those increases are reflected locally in the district’s overall score which rose 2.4 points over last year’s score from 64.5 to 66.9. For more information, visit http://ccrpi.gadoe.org/2017/

After-School Tutorial

After-school tutorial will resume on November 7th.

Student Tardies

Parents of tardy students: If your child arrives to school after 7:40 a.m., please make sure you escort your child into the main office and sign your child in. Thank you for your cooperation.

6th & 8th Grade Scoliosis Screenings

On Wednesday, November 8th, SCCPSS will conduct a scoliosis screening program to find children with signs of an abnormal curve of the spine. It is known that two children out of every 100 may have scoliosis. If this condition is found early and appropriately treated, progressive spine deformity can usually be prevented. The procedure for screening is a simple 30 second test in which the screener (nurse or other trained person) looks at the child's back in the standing position and while bending forward. Boy and girls are screened separately. If your child has a suspected curve, you will be notified and asked to take your child to your family doctor or an orthopedic doctor for follow-up. If you do not want your child to be screened, please complete the form available on the STEM website under Announcements.

FBLA Snack Store

FBLA is opening a snack store during brain break. The store will be located outside at the end of H and D wing and open on all non-club/advisement days. Thank you for supporting STEM FBLA.

School Climate Surveys

The STEM Academy @ Bartlett and the Georgia Department of Education need your help with the 2017-18 School Climate Surveys. These anonymous online surveys seek parent, student, and staff feedback on the quality and character of school life and are part of the calculation that determines The STEM Academy @ Bartlett climate rating within the College and Career Readiness Performance Index (CCRPI). Parents may take this survey from any desktop, laptop, or mobile internet device. Parents are also welcome to visit the school and take the survey in our media center. We hope that you will take 5-10 minutes of your time to complete the 2017-18 Georgia Parent Survey at the following URL: http://gshs.gadoe.org/parents

8th Grade Trip Parent Information Meeting

Attention 8th graders and parents: There will be an information meeting about this spring's 8th grade trip to Kennedy Space Center and Islands of Adventure on Monday, November 6th at 6pm in the STEM cafeteria. See Ms. Lash with questions.

Socktober

The LYP Club is excited to announce over 518 socks were donated for #Socktober. Dr. Cave celebrated this by dyeing his beard blue and green! Check out our video on our school Facebook page. Thank you to everyone who donated.

Free/Reduced Lunch Applications

Families needing to complete a Free/Reduced Lunch Application may visit: https://www.myschoolapps.com/Application

-Your social security number and electronic signature
-(Optional) A valid email address or phone number for district communication about the status of the application.

If you do not have access to a computer/internet to complete the application, you may visit the STEM Media Center during regular school hours for assistance. As always, paper copies are available in the Main Office and through the lunchroom.
