STEM School Counselor Elected to Georgia School Counselor Association Executive Board

Savannah, Georgia--The STEM Academy @ Bartlett is proud to announce Rebecca Burkhart, STEM school counselor, has been elected to serve on the 2018-2019 Georgia School Counselor Association (GSCA) Executive Board as the State Middle Director. This is Burkhart’s second year serving on the GSCA’s leadership team.

The Georgia School Counselor Association is a private, non-profit association comprised of school counselors, counseling and guidance directors, supervisors, administrators, counselor educators, and other individuals involved in related activities who have an impact on a student's success and wellbeing at school, work and home. The organization has over a 1,000 members from throughout the state of Georgia who work in educational settings from post secondary to elementary schools.

Burkhart, a graduate of Georgia Southern University, has been with the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System for 4 years. The daughter of an educator, she has worked in education for the past 12 years, previously serving as an education director at a Savannah-area nonprofit, a middle school counselor in South Carolina, and as an elementary school counselor locally.

With her new role, Burkhart states, “My hope is that no Georgia middle school counselor will feel like a solitary island, but will know that a network of like-minded professionals is within reach at state conferences, online, and through various networking opportunities.”

Part of the Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, The STEM Academy @ Bartlett is a specialty middle school serving sixth through eighth grade students. The school was Georgia’s first certified STEM middle school and FETC’s number one STEM middle school in the United States. The National Middle School Association recently chose The STEM Academy as a Lighthouse School to Watch.
