Former Student How to Utilize House Bill 91

Dear Former Student: Effective March 30, 2015, Georgia Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 91: Emancipation Diploma Bill into law. What does this mean for you? It means that any former student who has met all high school graduation requirements including completing all course requirements, attendance, and community service (if this graduation requirements applies to you), but did not pass one or more sections of either the Georgia High School Graduation Tests or the Georgia Basic Skills Tests, can petition their school district to grant them a diploma. If this petition is approved, the diploma will be issued for the date in which the student should have graduated from high school. Please review the steps below to help initiate this process: 1. If you graduated between 1981 and 2001 go to step 2. If you graduated in year 2002 and beyond go to step 3. 2. Go to the Records Management Department to get a sealed copy of your transcript. The cost is $3.00 (See address below) Whitney Administrative Complex 2 Laura Avenue Savannah, GA 31404 3. Complete the attached form; return it along with a copy of a valid photo identification and your transcript to Beach High School's Guidance Office. Transcript cost is $3.00 4. Beach High School staff will contact you within 30-45 days upon submission to pick up your diploma and updated transcript. 5. (only if necessary) Beach staff will schedule a meeting with you if there is a transcript/graduation requirement discrepency. Thank you, Derrick Muhammad Principal
