POINTS of PRIDE
Oglethorpe Charter School opened in 1999 as Georgia’s first start-up charter middle school. OCS is an official Core Knowledge School, which means that at least 80 percent of the content is taught annually.

All students at OCS are held to high academic standards, and participation in sports and special interest clubs depends on satisfactory grades and conduct. A Personal Education Plan (PEP) is created for each student, with clear learning goals related to a student’s progress meeting subject area objectives. The PEP also includes standardized test dat, a learning-styles assessment, student reflections and self-evaluations, teacher comments, and portfolio work samples.

Each Friday is Titan Time at Oglethorpe, an hour set aside for assemblies, advisory groups called TLC (Titans Learn Character), and clubs that range from needlepoint to the more traditional Student Council, yearbook, and newspaper.

Carnegie Units are offered in Spanish and Math Special Programs - Exceptional Child
The goal of the Exceptional Children Education Program is to assist students within the Core Knowledge Curriculum and meet their individual goals. This is done through having a certified teacher of exceptional children (called the Resource Teacher) in the classrooms where the child struggles, additional tutorials, classroom modifications, testing modifications, study-skills instruction, and social/emotional support for the student.

Oglethorpe Charter School uses two models of instruction to assist students in exceptional child education – inclusion and consultation. Students are assisted in regular-education classrooms by a full-time resource teacher. In addition, some students take part in the consultation model, whereby students attend all regular-education classes and meet with the resource teacher weekly or biweekly to share progress and concerns.
