Announcements: EBS Students win 1st place at Social Science Fair

Title

EBS Students win 1st place at Social Science Fair

Body

Congratulations, Alexis J. , Jakaila M. , and Sade’ W.! You are the best!

When asked about participating in the Social Studies Fair, with only about two weeks to prepare, Alexis, Jakaila, and Sade’ dove right in from the very beginning.  After receiving directions from their teacher about the project, the girls worked cooperatively, as well as diligently to complete the task, all between their regular class schedules.  Winning first place in the Middle School competition was the result of their hard work.

When asked about their experience while working on the project, the girls stated that they chose the topic, ‘T.V. Violence: Impact on Teens,’ because they felt that it was an issue that many teens could relate to, and since they are close to becoming teens themselves, they were curious about the topic.

The girls also stated that they did not realize how much of an impact that T.V. violence actually has on teens.  Sade stated, “… the violence seems to be cool…, but I learned that it could affect me more than I could ever imagine; …so I decided to watch more positive films to protect my character.”  What stands out to Jakaila is that teens can become a “copycat” when they see violence on T.V. Finally, the girls expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to work on the project, as well as with each other.

Alexis, Jakaila, and Sade will continue to compete in the next level of the S.S. Fair competition on Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Massie Heritage Center.  East Broad K-8 wishes them the best.
