We were pleased at the number of parents and students who attended our Parent Information Meeting on Sunday, April 17th, to learn about the Fine Arts Selection process for rising 4th and 5th graders.  To bring our parents up to date on the process, and to provide assistance to parents who were unable to attend the meeting, we are providing information on this process through this announcement and the attached documents handed out at the meeting.

Current Garrison Third Grade students:  Current Garrison 3rd grade students will view a video on Tuesday, April 26th with Mr. Johnnie Kennedy of Portman's Music about playing musical instruments.  Classes will be combined for this viewing during the regular fine arts period.  On Monday, May 2nd, Mr. Kennedy, together with band director Mr. Hutchinson and Orchestra Director, Mrs. Devyatkin, will meet with current Garrison 3rd grade students during their fine arts period to try out string and band instruments.  Their recommendations will be sent home to you by letter in the Wednesday communication folder on May 4th.

Transfer Garrison Rising 4th & 5th Grade students:  Portman's Music Store will be hosting a drop-in on Saturday, May 7, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Garrison faculty members Mrs. Devyatkin and Ms. Burke will also be in attendance and you and your child are invited to come by the store during that time to have your child try out a string instrument and/or band instrument and meet with faculty and store personnel to receive advice about your child pursuing a string or band instrument.  The drop in will be held in a conference area within the store at 7650 Abercorn St., Savannah, 31406 and musical instruments will be available for your child to try.  Parents may also receive information about instrument rentals and purchases, etc.

Both Current & Transferring Garrison Students:  Current Garrison 4th & 5th Grade students will receive a 2016-2017 Fine Arts Selection Form & Parent Inventory in their Communications Folder on Wednesday, May 4, 2016.  Transferring Garrison students will receive the 2016-2017 Fine Arts Selection Form & Parent Inventory by email on May 4th and the forms will also be available on the Garrison website on May 4th.

The Selection Form and Parent Inventory is due back to Garrison by May 15th for full consideration of your child's stated preferences.  This is not a first come/first served time window - parents are encouraged to take time to attend the Portman's drop in and/or email Garrison faculty with questions about the Fine Arts Selection process prior to completing their child's Selection Form. 

Question & Answer Session:  Parents of rising 4th & 5th Grade students who have questions about the Fine Arts Selection process are invited to an informal question and answer session with Fine Arts Coordinator Kelly Burke on the following dates:  Thursday, April 28th 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m.  Garrison Media Center, Friday, April 29th 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Garrison Media Center; and Monday, May 2nd, 4:00 - 5:30 p.m., Garrison Media Center.  No reservations are necessary, simply drop in during the hours specified.
