Teacher of the Year
Elaine Kowalchuk
May Howard Elementary

My name is Elaine Kowalchuk. I am honored and humbled to be May Howard’s Teacher of the Year for 2016-2017! I have been teaching for thirty years in the state of Georgia and have been teaching at May Howard Elementary for seventeen of those years. My undergraduate degree is from Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Georgia. I was fortunate to be able to get additional educational certification from Georgia State University in Atlanta, Georgia. Over the years, I have been honored to teach in many different positions, but currently I am a Second Grade Inclusion Teacher.

May Howard is just simply a wonderful school with such amazing teachers. My husband and I were fortunate to live in May Howard’s district and to be able to have our son attend this great school. Now, he is in his last year of college at UGA! I have been amazed by my fellow teacher’s commitment to education and their desire to teach at the highest level. I have the upmost admiration for all of them!

My students have all been special to me and I am so thankful that I was able to be their teacher. I take pride that so many of them will stop and say hello to me on campus and very happy to see their smiling faces. Teaching students is a joy! Educators are very lucky; we get to spend a day changing a student’s life by helping them learn their most favorite subjects! Teaching is a precious gift and I am very proud and honored to be May Howard’s Teacher of the Year.
