Tomochichi

Tomochichi’s birth was in 1650. Oglethorpe  and  Tomochichi  met  in  1733  and  became  friends.  Tomochichi  gave  Oglethorpe  a  nickname.  He  called  him  the  “Great  Man.” Tomochichi and Oglethorpe were the best friends ever. Did  you  know  Tomochichi  formed  his  own  group  that  stayed  right  here  in  the  Savannah  area? Oh, did  I  forget  to  mention  that  Tomochichi,  the  leader  of  the  Yamacraws,  did  not  want  to  have  a  war. Wow,  Tomochichi  gave  King  George  eleven  feathers  from  the  eagle  as  a  present. He did not want to join the Yamasee battle.

This is the rock that is a memorial to Chief Tomochichi. This rock is in Savannah.
